Orchard Drainage Installation

Flooding across this orchard was threatening production and long-term tree health. Many trees had already been lost, struggling in waterlogged soil.
To solve this, we installed over one kilometre of subsurface drainage across the block, with lines spaced about 30 metres apart down the rows. The system connects into a gravity drain that carries water out to an open outlet.

Using our smaller trencher, narrow and accurate trenches were cut through the rows. Guided by a laser auto-level, each pipe was laid at the correct fall for consistent water flow. Perforated pipe was installed, backfilled with graded stone, and covered with soil to leave a smooth, tidy finish.
Working in tight orchard rows required precision and care. Every move was made to protect existing trees while keeping the process safe and efficient.
In just three days, the full installation was complete, lowering the water table, improving soil aeration, and creating healthier growing conditions across the block.
Now, instead of fighting water, this orchard can thrive for the long term.
